Announcing this at a press conference on July 24 evening, Superintendent of Police P Hari Kumar said the surrendered Maoist militia members including three women, belong to Charla, Venkatapuram and Wajedu mandals (administrative unit) of Bhadrachalam division. Some of them were involved in several offences such as setting ablaze construction equipment, felling of trees and digging of roads at the behest of the Maoists at different places in the division in the past two years, he said alleging that the Naxalites [Left Wing Extremists (LWEs)] involved them in destructive activities to further their own interests.
